Around the World in 12 Dishes is an original idea by Elespacio and culinary advocate Imogen Wells.
The responsive website features a collection of 12 tasty recipes and stories of small food-producers. It aims to celebrate diversity and help people build a more intimate relationship with our food and its sources.

We reached out to food producers all over the world for information about their goods, production details and the daily challenges of working in their environment.
We were pleasantly surprised with the amount of responses we received and enthusiasm for our project.
We made a final selection of 12 producers. Their stories are featured on the site along with recipes based on their goods.
Design & visual language
Each recipe is presented as a story. It starts with some background on the producer, and later focus on the preparation of the dish and its nutritional value. This content structure led us to a layout that allows the site to be consistently displayed on both desktop and mobile devices.
We also created a set of illustrations that we used as a cover for each recipe. These were inspired by the materials we received from the producers and contain references to the producers themselves, their environment and goods.
Food photography
Our friends at Lumen Studio helped us create a set of striking images of the recipes. The images were taken at Imogen Wells’ kitchen right after she finished preparing the dishes in order to capture the spontaneity in the process.
Awards & recognition
The project has been featured in magazines like Monocle or Net. It has also received a CSS Design Awards and Awwwards Site of the Day.
